Getting Married at Ruthin Castle
A castle wedding in the heart of Denbighshire sounds rather wonderful — but it helps to see it for yourself before you commit. Here's how to make the most of a visit.
A castle with real history
Ruthin Castle's story begins in 1277, and the grounds now include a history trail with 12 information boards — handy for keeping guests entertained between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast. It sits in acres of countryside, so there's no shortage of spots for photos.
Rooms for small and large weddings
The Grand Salon is the main wedding suite, with high ceilings, huge windows and its own private terrace and gardens looking over the castle battlements: up to 100 for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, and 120 in the evening. Bertie's suits smaller weddings, with 60 for the ceremony and breakfast and 80 in the evening. The Peacock Suite & Terrace works well for medium-sized weddings.
Stay, spa and a castle tavern
Guests can stay over in rooms ranging from standard to suites, and there's a spa and the Tafarn y Ddraig tavern on site, which makes the morning after considerably more civilised.
See it dressed for a wedding
An empty room asks a lot of your imagination. At Behind the Castle Walls you'll see the venue styled for a wedding, with featured suppliers there to chat. Strict category caps mean proper conversations rather than queues.

Questions worth asking on the day
- Grand Salon, Bertie's or the Peacock Suite — which suits our numbers?
- What's in the wedding packages, and what do we bring in?
- Where do the best photos happen at different times of year?
- How do suppliers get set up on the day?
